 Effective project planning and management methodologies are required to implement the business plan for new initiatives. Strategic visions and high-level goals must be translated into tactical plans, and then implemented.
In the detailed planning phase, the business plan is transformed into one or more projects, each with its own set of achievable and measurable objectives. While this is usually done at a high-level during the funding application stage, it is generally not in sufficient detail for effective implementation. Comprehensive and detailed project plans need to be developed to identify all tasks, milestones, resources, and deliverables required to achieve the objectives. These plans generally need to address a range of staffing, communications, marketing, and evaluation activities in addition to simply identifying the more obvious deliverables, dates, and associated costs.
Project management methodologies, including change management strategies, are applied throughout the implementation phase. These methodologies support effective progress tracking and reporting, ensuring that deliverables are produced on time and within budget and that all stakeholders are routinely informed of progress.
